Somatic Awareness

Felden-What? The Feldenkrais Method is a practice designed to build awareness, sensory intelligence, and re-wire patterns to learn to move with more ease, fluidity, and skill.

The methodology was founded by Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais, an Israeli physicist and Judo teacher. A severe knee injury, and poor prognosis for recovery, led Feldenkrais to delve into a study of human movement and our capacity for learning and change. His work combines neuroscience, physics, and martial arts principles with somatic awareness.

The methodology utilizes “Awareness Through Movement” lessons, taught verbally to an individual or group as well as “Functional Integration” hands on body work.

About Kate

Kate Hamilton’s yoga and somatic awareness practice is grounded in Vinyasa and dynamic restorative yoga, along with the Feldenkrais Method. She aims to create an inspired setting for students to deepen their connection to their own body, explore movement, and exercise muscles of awareness.

While training as a yoga instructor, Kate discovered the Feldenkrais Method. She found the principles and gentle practice so healing and fascinating that she embarked on a four-year Feldenkrais practitioner training, which she completed in 2020.

Providing access to mindful movement to underserved populations and social/environmental change-makers is a key interest in Kate’s teaching practice.

One-on-one or group instruction for beginners, for individuals working with an injury, or for refining your practice. 

Feldenkrais Lessons

Awareness Through Movement Lessons one-on-one or in a group designed to develop somatic awareness and explore new possibilities for movement.

 

Ease in the Office

Ergonomic assessments and group lessons designed to facilitate more comfort in sitting and computer use, along with lessons in mindfulness and stress reduction.

Pranayama
(Breath and Meditation)

One-on-one or group instruction for grounding and centering through breathing and visualization practices.
